You’ve got choices of so many events happening this weekend—it may be challenging to pick out your faves—so here’s two not to miss! On Friday, 5/1/15, the City of Solvang turns 30 years old and you’re invited to a free aebleskiver breakfast from 9:00-10:30 a.m. in Solvang Park (Mission Drive & First Street). Yes, Solvang was founded in 1911 yet became a legal California city in 1985—hence the 30th birthday breakfast bash. Come meet the Mayor, city officials and enjoy some of those popular Danish pancake balls!
Then, this Saturday, 5/2/15, starting around 2:00 p.m. on, join us as we welcome more than 500 members of the Rancheros Visitadores “visiting ranchers” for their free equestrian parade north along Alisal Road then east on Mission Drive. Watch these handsome horses, riders and carriages stride by, then head to the Old Mission Santa Ines field to see them blessed by the padres. Afterward, they will head along the Santa Ynez River trail for their week-long trek and encampment nearby. This long-time private men’s membership club is gathering here for the 85th time to celebrate horsemanship, western heritage and ranching traditions. Spring has sprung and there’s more hours of daylight—so now’s the chance for you and/or someone you know to get out and play more golf (just like they’re doing this week at the Masters in Augusta)! The good news–there are year-round options to shout “fore” in style around Solvang. Surrounded by rolling hills, ranches and vineyards, our local golf courses definitely have some great scenery to enhance your play time. Just five minutes from downtown Solvang, The River Course at The Alisal is situated on the banks of the Santa Ynez River against a backdrop of the Santa Ynez Mountains, and was prominently featured in the 2004 Oscar-winning movie Sideways; plus the River Terrace is a tasty place for breakfast & lunch. In the nearby Santa Rita Hills wine country west of Buellton, check out La Purisima Golf Course created by world-renowned course architect Robert Muir in 1986 on 309 acres. Zaca Creek Golf Course is a sweet 9-hole, par-29 public course in Buellton. Rancho San Marcos gracefully saddles the natural topography meandering amid a plethora of ancient oaks just 30 minutes away down Highway 154. For complete details on where to say Fore!
