If you’re like me, you’re happy about all the recent rains here in Solvang and throughout California–however, one side-effect is the cancelation of our annual Christmas Tree Burn scheduled for Friday, January 8, 2016, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the fields of Old Mission Santa Inés, 1760 Mission Drive. According to our Solvang City Manager Brad Vidro, recent rains have made the staging and viewing area in the field extremely wet and muddy, creating unstable conditions. The City of Solvang is committed to working with contractor Waste Management to remove the trees already piled high and will recycle them via chipping for future use as mulch. So that’s a good thing, yet it IS disappointing to miss the tree burn this year!
Remember, Solvang was named one of Time Magazine’s “Most Christmas-y Towns in America” and we conclude our annual Julefest Celebration with a Christmas Tree Burn event each January. The Christmas Tree Burn is totally supervised by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and is one of the largest fire safety demonstrations and community gatherings on California’s Central Coast. It’s all coordinated by the Solvang Parks & Recreation Department featuring live entertainment, food & beverages available for purchase in a popular family-friendly environment.
So, be sure to mark your calendar for the next Solvang Annual Christmas Tree Burn scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2017.
For more information about visiting Solvang year-round, please stop by the Solvang Visitors Center at 1639 Copenhagen Drive (open daily 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.); call 805-688-6144 or visit www.SolvangUSA.com
“See people rocking — Hear people chanting — Feeling hot hot hot”—these classic lyrics from Buster Poindexter’s tune capture the spirit of one of Solvang’s “hottest” events of the year! If you and your family want to experience it, then be sure to attend the FREE annual Solvang Christmas Tree Burn in the fields at Old Mission Santa Ines, 1760 Mission Drive in downtown Solvang from 5:00-7:00 p.m. this Friday, January 8, 2016. This popular annual event is coordinated by the Solvang Parks & Recreation Department and fully supervised by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. It’s one of the largest fire safety demonstrations and community gatherings on California’s Central Coast. There will be free, live entertainment as well as refreshments for purchase.
All area residents are invited to bring their tree (stands & ornaments must be removed) to the big burn pile between now and 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2016. Join together to see this powerful spectacle ignite the New Year and herald the end of Solvang’s annual Julefest Celebration.
