Man of La Mancha Opens This Friday at PCPA Theaterfest Under the Stars

Man of La Mancha LogoHave you ever felt as if you might be able “To Dream the Impossible Dream?”  You can! Starting this Friday (7/17/15) through Sunday, 8/16/15, the classic musical Man of La Mancha is playing under the stars in the Solvang Festival Theater, 420 Second Street in downtown Solvang. This PCPA Theaterfest production is a play within a play, where you’ll meet Miguel de Cervantes, who has just been imprisoned during the Spanish Inquisition. In the dungeon, the other prisoners hold a mock trial and Cervantes must defend himself to save a precious manuscript. He tells the court a fantastic story of an aging nobleman, and while doing so, he transforms himself into knight-errant Don Quixote de la Mancha. Don Quixote duels windmill monsters and defends Dulcinea, the lady of his dreams, who is actually a peasant “kitchen wench” named Aldonza. He travels with Sancho Panza, his squire, who does his best to keep Quixote out of trouble. Will hope win over fear? Find out for yourself and be transformed while sitting under the summer stars and watching the stars on stage!

If you’re like me, you’ll be humming “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” and the title track “Oklahoma!” long after you’ve left your seat!  I think there’s something magical about seeing professional theater productions in Solvang every summer. I highly recommend you pack a picnic from a local deli or take-out from one of our restaurants; then enjoy in the newly revamped theater courtyard before the show (gates open at 7:00 p.m.) You can buy glasses of local wines or famous Snickerdoodle cookies and coffee from the snack bar–then sit back and enjoy your evening with stars in the sky and on the stage! http://www.pcpa.org/plays/plays/oklahoma.html
